Jolene Walter

Jolene started at GCCS in 2013 as a substitute teacher, eventually serving as a long-term substitute before joining the permanent staff in 2015. Originally from San Diego, she attended Carleton College in Minnesota where she majored in psychology and studied studio art abroad in the South Pacific. In her life before teaching, she worked at Barnes & Noble and at a literary agency in New York City. After moving to Rochester, she served a year as an AmeriCorps member at the Center for Youth, where she facilitated life skills workshops and violence prevention programs in Rochester City Schools, suburban schools across Monroe County, the Horizons program at Warner, and an emergency youth shelter. Jolene earned a master's degree in childhood education from the University of Rochester. She previously taught at Cobblestone School and has helped lead programs abroad for high school and college students. She has a background in studio art and music, and in her spare time she enjoys travel, getting lost in new places, photography, the outdoors, volleyball, and scuba diving.
