Melissa Fredericks started at the Genesee Community Charter School in 2002. Prior to teaching at the Genesee Community Charter School, Ms. Fredericks taught preschool in the Rochester City School District as well as Grade 6 – Grade 8 life skills classes for BOCES. Ms. Fredericks has a bachelor’s degree in special education and elementary education with a concentration in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Nazareth College.
Ms. Fredericks enjoys outdoor adventures with her children, including hiking, canoeing, biking, and she is a Girl Scout leader.
For Ms. Fredericks, mathematics and expedition are her favorite things to teach. She also loves Kindergarten because she gets to teach kids how to be part of a learning and social community, and she enjoys encouraging children to express themselves through visual arts. Ms. Fredericks explains “I teach at Genesee Community Charter School because the expectations here are not only the ones I want to have in my classroom and help children to achieve, but they are also the values I wish to strive for in life. It has been incredible to work here, and equally wonderful to have my children be able to reap the benefits of the school as students.”
