Gratitude for the Earth

School Year:
First Grade

With the help of the Great Stone, first graders will continue to piece together the story of the earth. Students will wonder: Who were the first people to live in the area we now call Rochester? Through visits to the RMSC, informational texts, and oral stories, students will learn about the lives of these early people and how they relied on the natural world around them for food, clothing, and shelter. Students will also hear traditional stories passed down through generations and consider the role stories play in culture. The theme of gratitude will be woven throughout the expedition as students reflect on how expressing thanks for the earth can impact the way people interact with the natural world.
