New Places, New Faces

School Year:
First Grade

The Great Stone returns to continue the story of the earth for the hunter boy and for first graders. He awaits the hunter boy but is surprised when he hears different footsteps coming and sees a man arrive in strange clothing and speaking a different language. Who is this person? Why is he here? Through primary source documents and field studies, students will discover who this man and his family are, why they have come to settle in this area, and how one of the earliest Rochester communities was established. First graders will make connections between the character traits the early settlers used and character traits first graders use as we near the end of the school year and students prepare for their transition to second grade.
