Admissions

How to Apply and Enroll

1. Submit an online application through GoodSchoolsRoc (liked below).

  • You must create an account and log in to submit an application.
  • Be sure to apply to your preferred GCCS campus (RMSC Campus or Flour City Campus), though you are welcome and encouraged to apply to both.
  • We begin accepting applications in December of the previous year. For example, we began accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year in December 2024.
  • Students entering Kindergarten must turn 5 years old on or before December 1st.

2. Students are selected in April through an enrollment lottery.

  • In order for your child to be included in the lottery, you must submit an application no later than April 1st. Any applications submitted after April 1st will automatically be added to our waitlists.
  • Lottery preference is given to staff children, siblings of current students, and residents of the Rochester City School District (RCSD). Suburban district residents are welcome to apply but are only offered enrollment after all RCSD applicants.

3. You will be notified via email if your child is offered a seat at either GCCS campus.

  • Please follow the instructions in the email in order to accept or decline the enrollment offer.
  • The window to accept or decline an enrollment offer is 72 hours (3 days).
  • Any offers that do not yield a response after 72 hours (3 days) will be revoked and given to the next family on the waitlist.

4. Once you accept an offer from GCCS, a packet of enrollment paperwork will be mailed via USPS to the address listed on your application.

  • Enrollment paperwork is due within 5 days of receipt.
  • Enrollment paperwork is not considered complete unless it includes:
    • A copy of the student’s birth certificate
    • A copy of the primary guardian’s photo ID
    • A proof of address/residency (a utility bill or lease/mortgage statement is best)
  • You must turn in the complete enrollment packet in order to secure your child’s seat at GCCS. Options for returning the packet are listed on the cover letter.

Single-Accept Policy

The following policy applies to all Rochester charter schools and is not exclusive to GCCS:

You may only accept an enrollment offer from one school, even if you receive offers from multiple schools. When you accept an offer from a school, all other offers and registrations are automatically withdrawn.

Accepting an offer does not change waitlist status at other schools.

Rolling Admissions

GCCS offers any openings at either campus as they become available throughout the school year. If your child is not offered admission, a new application must be made each year as applications and waitlist status do not roll over from year to year.

Statement of Nondiscrimination

As a public school, Genesee Community Charter School is open to all applicants who fit our age guidelines. GCCS will not limit admission of any student on any unlawful basis and/or GCCS shall not discriminate against any student’s intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, disability, race, gender, creed, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, or religion. GCCS may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admission test, interview essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) in order for an applicant to either receive or submit an application for admission.
