The Reason for Replication

Since its founding in 2001, Genesee Community Charter School has been one of the most successful K–6 charter schools in New York State as measured by the New York State Education Department’s School Performance Index. GCCS is nationally recognized for its implementation of the EL Education  (formerly Expeditionary Learning) model. Throughout its 20-year history, GCCS has expanded its footprint through our collaboration with local and national schools, as well as our commitment to community service projects. GCCS equally values multidisciplinary education, community activism, and social justice. We will continue to erase boundaries and promote equity in education.

A Brief History & Looking Ahead

The proposal of the replication school was provided to SUNY, one of the State’s charter authorizers, on February 16, 2021. The charter was officially approved by SUNY and the Board of Regents in the fall of 2021.

The Flour City Campus found its inaugural home in the former Colgate Divinity School building during the summer of 2022. Renovations were completed in order to receive a Certificate of Occupancy, and the Flour City Campus opened its doors to students on September 19, 2022.

With the RMSC and Flour City campuses just down the street from each other, both schools will strengthen their partnership and collaboration with each other as well as our partners in the greater community.

The Flour City Campus will add a new grade level every school year until 6th grade is reached.
