Admissions

We will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year on December 2nd.

Admissions

How to Apply

Applications are available online at GoodSchoolsRoc.org. You must create an account and log in. Be sure to apply to your preferred GCCS campus (RMSC or Flour City), though you are welcome and encouraged to apply to both.

Once a student is enrolled at a particular GCCS campus, there is no option to directly transfer to the other.

Students entering Kindergarten must turn 5 years old on or before December 1st.

The Lottery

GCCS students are selected every year in an enrollment lottery. Preference is given to siblings of current students, residents of the Rochester City School District, and staff children. Suburban district residents are welcome to apply, but are only offered enrollment after all RCSD applicants.

  • GoodSchoolsRoc Single-Accept Policy:

The following policy applies to all charter schools and is not exclusive to GCCS:

A student may only accept an offer at one school, even if they receive offers from multiple schools. When a student accepts an offer at their school of choice, all other registrations or acceptances are automatically declined or withdrawn. Accepting an offer does not change waitlist status at other schools and the student will not be removed from existing waitlists.

For more information, please visit the FAQ page of the GoodSchoolsRoc website.

Waitlists

All applicants who are not admitted to the school(s) are placed on waitlists in the order in which their applications are drawn in the lottery. Each GCCS campus has its own waitlist, so your position on one might differ from the other. For the best chance of admission, be sure to submit your GoodSchoolsRoc application by the posted due date.

Rolling Admissions

GCCS offers any openings at either campus as they become available throughout the school year. If your child is not offered admission, a new application must be made each year. Applications and waitlist status do not roll over from year to year.

Statement of Nondiscrimination

As a public school, Genesee Community Charter School is open to all applicants who fit our age guidelines. GCCS will not limit admission of any student on any unlawful basis and/or GCCS shall not discriminate against any student’s intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, disability, race, gender, creed, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, or religion. GCCS may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admission test, interview essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) in order for an applicant to either receive or submit an application for admission.
