Does GCCS require uniforms?

  • No, GCCS does not require uniforms.

Does GCCS assign homework?

  • While extra practice work may be requested from your child’s teachers, GCCS does not assign homework.

Does GCCS provide after school care?

  • GCCS is partnered with Rochester Ecology Programs to provide an outdoor after school program on Wednesdays only. The program maxes out at 20 students and is open to students in grades 1-6. The program ends at 2:45pm and no transportation is provided.
  • Many students take the bus to external after school programs. Examples include: Asbury Day Care Center, Rochester Childfirst Network, and the YMCA.

Does GCCS provide transportation?

  • Transportation is provided by your district of residence. Please see our Transportation page for more information.

Do the students have recess?

  • Yes, all GCCS students are given a 20-30 minute recess period every day. Recess is held outside, including during the winter months. Students are permitted to keep winter gear (snow pants, boots, gloves, etc.) at school. Recess is held indoors in the case of inclement weather.

What is a typical school day like?

  • Students arrive for the day between 7:45am-8:00am. During this period, students may eat breakfast and engage in Morning Choice time (games and play). Morning Meeting begins by 8:30am; all students circle up on the carpet, greet each other, and go over the schedule for the day. Academic lessons in math, ELA, and Expedition bring students to a quick snack period, followed by 20-30 minutes of outdoor recess and a 30-minute lunch period at midday. Students finish out the day with additional academic lessons or specials classes (art, music, or PE). Dismissal begins at 2:45pm (12:45pm on Wednesdays).

Why is there early dismissal (12:45pm) every Wednesday?

  • Students are dismissed early every Wednesday to allow staff professional development time in the afternoon.

Are parents permitted to volunteer?

  • Yes, parents and caregivers are welcome to volunteer at GCCS! Please see our Family Association page for more information.

How can I contact my child’s teachers?

  • Most teaching teams use Seesaw to communicate with parents. Teachers can also be contacted via email.

What is your policy for when a student is sick?

  • Your child may be sent home if they have a fever or if their symptoms prevent them from engaging in the school day. Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication, before they may return to school.
